I bought a business and they have their main domain and another 7 variations registered.
Some would be EMD for keywords.

Nothing has ever been on these domains. No links exist to them.

Am I correct that 301'ing them to the main site will achieve nothing?

No backlinks means no authority\rank\flow, so no point unless you build up backlinks to them.

...no links\no content = no traffic.

There is no point in redirecting, because there is no point in giving re direction from a empty domain.

Unless you create proper traffic to the main domain by making it popular there is no use in doing business with that domain.

If you have EMDs, build landing page content and then provide a link to your main site. 301ing will only be a good idea in this case if the domains are typos or different tlds of your main site, e.g. mysite.com and mysite.org. Redirecting those can be useful if you have some offline advertising in place to drive direct traffic.

Thanks guys. I'll 301 the ones that where the searcher might have gotten the word order incorrect, and think about building something on those that are a bit different.
