    Hi Folks,

    I am about too move an entire site (oldsite.com) to a new site (newsite.com) using 301 redirection

    Should I retain the old URL structure?. Can I use different URL structure on the new site? Please examples below. I have my own reason to change the url structure on newsite.com

    oldsite.com/redcategory/1.html ---301 Redirect--->newsite.com/bluecategory/1.html
    oldsite.com/redcategory/2.html ---301 Redirect--->newsite.com/bluecategory/cool/2.html

    Thx

    301's will do the job...

    Retaining an old URL structure can be simpler - as you can then do a domain redirect to the same page on another domain, but you can do individual pages as well; it can just become cumbersome!

    As long as you do a proper 301, then you'll pass the SEO benefit; it's really down to whether the URL structure really NEEDS to be changed - and it's not just OCD/vanity/tidy-up!
