hi every one. 301 redirect is good or not. one of my old site ranking well in google but due to some reason i have to close that domain after few weeks but before make it close i want to redirect to my new site. 1. should i make new site clone of old site. using same content and everything same then redirect ?2. should i need to make new site with new content and everything new then redirect?3. else can i redirect many old site to new site?4. and last thing while using 301 should i need to redirect every page of old site to same services page on new site which make more easy to understand google. Please give me some suggestion what will be best option.

You can use the same content as long as you are going to redirect the old domain to the new one. For best results, redirect every page to their respective page on the new site.

Here's how it went for me:
    301stat.png

    - Domain A got penalized years ago. (penguin)
    - Domain B was 2 months old at the time of the redirect, zero links.
    - Moved content from site A to site B, and put a 301 on site A->site B
    - Worked at first but penalty caught up quickly.

Others have different outcomes, all I can say is go ahead and try it.
    Good luck :)

301's used to work within 48 hours but it seems like Google has caught on and killed that. I know its till works but not like it used too IMO

Yes you can add into same Webmaster, as a matter of fact you should tell Google you are 301'ing the old site to the new site within the WMT settings.

No you will not get a penalty just for redirecting site A to site B :)
That's a perfectly legit thing to do. Site A needs to be already slapped else there is no penalty to transfer over.

301's don't pass penalties they pass link equity/juice. If the new site can't handle the toxic links that are coming straight through the 301 then yes the new site will incur a penalty too.

If the 301 from the originally penalised site was redirected to a more authoritative site with a larger and more diverse link profile then this site would probably get a little boost from the new 301, not a penalty. If 301's directly passed penalties then anyone could 301 to any site and pass the penalty onto the site.

301s are still going pretty strong, The concept of 301s can never be killed because too many whitehat sites are using it.

If they killed 301s all the legit sites would be penalized too (think of seomoz 301ing to moz)

Noobs keep complaining it doesn't work. However, some of the TOP sites in competitive niches still banking using that.
Anyone with an ahrefs subscription and basic know-how to do some link profile digging for Top ranking sites in Big Money making niches and analyze and confirm that 301s still rock :)

so there's no need of debate, one can find it out easily :)

Most people just check pr,pa,da and buy expired domains that are often penalized and 301 it resulting in poor results.
There's a LOT of research that goes into buying domains for 301s and it could take days to find a few decent ones!
