Hey guys out of curiosity... If you had a domain that was un-related to your niche site but strong like 60's DA/PA TF30 with no spammy links and you 301 that to your niche have you seen that it could hurt your rankings? I have recently done just that 30days ago and the domain was clean with great links edu, gov, hufpost, wallstreet etc. but for some reason I am falling in the ranking and not moving up. Very weird...

    Whacha think?

It was clean, I checked by setting up a single page in GWT and waited a week before forwarding.

Did you check waybackmachine etc for signs of previous spam? It should have helped out a little.

Why would a legit news site in Russia drop a site with these metrics? Maybe, because they are fucked? Moz metrics (PA/DA), can be gamed hard. Never use them as an end all.

I was going through your reply and you are certain, sure that this domain is clean. The only advice i would give you is this.

Since this domain already has the power, why not use it to build a blog around the same niche, then wait to see it's power and Serp movement.
I won't even advice an enemy to 301 a domain to a ranking website, the possibility of losing ranking and everything is high, too high to gamble with.

Just because Google hasn't given it a Penalty in GWT, doesn't mean it hasn't been tagged. Did you go through the link profile?

This being said, I agree with wisdomkid, why not revive the entire site or partial from archives? Then use it as a legit link. You could even write an article on the site, which is relevant to your niche and paste a link to said article on the homepage.

    I'm not a huge fan of 301s, especially non-relevant 301s. Just my 2 cents:)

Why not build a moneysite on it if it's that strong?

I am betting your current money site isn't a DA50+ with legit links ?

This ratio tells me it's been spammed.

What makes you say that? I am not seeing anything out of the ordinary other than a site wide on a government site.

I did notice one thing out of the ordinary, though I am not sure it will make that big of a difference... but at the time I was ranking well the 301 was going to the way my domain is setup with the www and for some reason I just checked and it was going to the non www version creating 2 hops when checking the header instead of just the one single 301 to the 200 so in other words for some reason it was going 301 > 301 > 200 when it should have been 301 > 200.

You think that could be the reason for the dip in all my pages ranks? I just changed it back to the way it should be and we will see what happens... I will report back on if that may have been it.
