I have an Exact match eCommerce store that is dominating the niche.

I want to move platforms and clean it up and i think its time to move away from the exact match and Brand the business.

So for example... currently.... bluewidgets.com I want to set up a brand new site with the content and name it something like.... MrWidgetguy.com

When i do this and redirect all the pages to all the new pages on my brandable domain, will this hurt my rankings?
How long will it take for Google to recognize that the business has moved and start to rank the new domain pages.

How long should i keep the 301 redirects in place?

I dont want to give away the exact match but maybe after the whole process is complete i can set up a blog on it or something to help promote the business.

Any help with this is appreciated, especially from people who have done this recently.

    Cheers,

A redirect does not pass on full 100% rankings to the new domain. You will loose some ranking juice, but not much. It depends on your competitors; by losing a bit of juice, you still may keep your same high rankings. I have done something similar like this in the past on one of my sites and the rankings dropped from #3 to #6, but I was able to bring it back up rather quickly with some additional SEO on the new domain.

oh okay. How long does it take before Google stops ranking my old domain? Do you think a brand-able domain name is a much better idea for a sustainable future?

As i am in control of all of my High PR backlinks. Would it also be best to change them to link to my new domain?
