One of my product categories only has one product now, so the category landing page is not really needed.

The product page is starting to outperform the landing page in terms of backlinks etc - as this is the product we have been promoting.

I want to get rid of the landing page, and 301 it to the product page, and then change the product page copy slightly to reflect things

I am thinking I can pass the juice from the landing page directly to the product page

Is there any SEO risk to this?

    Cheers

I used to do this and I've sold a few products by implementing 301 redirecting scripts. Your landing page with the 301 script will probably get penalized (in other words, it won't show up in Google search results) as it offers no real value to visitors. So unless you're promoting the landing page manually (not relying on search engine traffic), then there's no benefit to doing this.

thanks - the landing page is basically useless now - it just has a spiel, then talks about the sole product, with a link to the product page
