So a company I resold a digital item to claims the item was fraudulent and I owe them the amount they paid me, $300. I was told if I do not pay them the "debt" would be sent to a debt collector.

Should I repay them or let them send the debt to a collector?

I'm not a lawyer, but I'm sure they would need to get a court ruling first to say you need to refund the money.

If the item was fraudulent though, would you really want it to go to court?

It was a gift card - I bought it on ebay and didn't need it so resold it to the company. They said it was funded fraudulently. Tried getting a refund through ebay and paypal, but nope. I bought it and sold it in August and this is just coming up now.

    Should have added this originally

I've ran up a $500 debt that then went to like $750 from interest and after the cc company sold it off to a debt collector they sometimes lower it to like $350 one time pay off before they send it to another company.
