I think what I am talking about is called "canonical"

How do I stay out of trouble with Google if I have 3 webpages with basically the same content but a sales pitch to different personas. So they are different but large parts of the page are the same.

Do I need to do anything?

Are you the one who write it? You can revise or rewrite it.

Don't use any ‘tricks’ because they don’t work in the long run and may even backfire. Do some revisions, use synonyms and paraphrase some lines to avoid duplicate content.

Are you intending to rank these webpages or are they just used as sales pages that you promote through other means besides SEO?

It is a good question to ask.
If you looking to rank well don't ever consider to use the same content in multiple pages.

If you using just as a sales page means you can use spun content in other pages.

Yes you got the right term - it's called a canonical, and you can do it easily in WP.

I've done this for big clients and it works great. Basically if you have a bunch of pages with pretty similar content, all targeting different users (or some pages were created for adwords, etc) then you want to canonical all of the pages toward the 1 page you want to rank for. I've seen some ranking increases from this as well toward the primary page, after canonicaling everything toward it.

no prob, feel free to ask any other qs
btw this is also good for ecommerce sites
    domain.com/drinks/juice
    should canonical to:
    domain.com/juice
    (assuming those 2 domains exist)

From my point of view, don't use same content. Unique content will push your site to next level. If your site is like ecommerce based site, you can use same content for marketing. Other than that don't use spun content in your website.

You're doing something wrong OP. Don't use 3 identical pages. If you have 3 products, then create 3 pages!
