I created a blogspot blog during a clickbank product launch for a make money product and using white hat seo and some splogs was able to get it to #3 on Google.

The problem is that high ranking has only produced about $60 in the last two months.

That seems like very little profit for such a high ranking.

    What do you guys think?

is the keyword closely related to the product?

you got adsense for secondary income?

how many hits a day u getting?

has the product ur promoting got good sales pages?

all the questions u need to be asking.

BTW im no expert. This is my next project, to get some decent blogs high in the rankings, and these tend to be the questions and themes that ive come across researching.

do u mind if i take a look? could u pm me the blog url and search term u rank 3rd for?

edit, yeah cpa would give u a way to make money from people who spend feck all

A lot of possibilities can explain the low profits. Maybe only few people pay (no competition) for that keyword. Maybe you are #3 only in some countries (can be very different). As I said, it can be many things.

My guess from what you're saying is it's prob a low search volume keyword. It's not all about the ranking if the keyword you're ranking for is crap or low volume..

Sometimes google shows not acurate results count. That mainly happens when it is updating its rank I think. May be you checked your competition in that time?
(I am getting only 467,000,000 results for "sex" keyword right now)
Also try to put quotes in your search query along with keyword. I.e. search google for "keyword" not keyword and check the results count.

You can't say what your going to make just based on the google ranking of a site. Your daily / monthly uniques is a better judge. What are you making per unique visitor.

Just because your number 3 doesn't mean your link looks attractive enough for the user to click.

First, you didn't mention how you are monetizing it. Is that $60 from Adsense? Clickbank products? CPA? You haven't mentioned what you are doing to monetize it.

Next, how many results show up for your keyword in quotes? You may be #3 for 925 million but in quotes your keyword may only have 5000 competing pages and may only get 100 searches per month.

    1. jmann0305 is right - to get higher rank but without enough visitors is useless

    2. It's nothing to do with competition since you already ranked #3

    3. However is you have a decent amount of unique visitors, it means your CB product
(or your sale page) doesn't have enough attraction. So my suggestion is go for
CPA or rework your blog content.

    Hi,

Will try to answer questions asked.

    1. with " keyword " in quotes, there are only 7,500 results

    2. monetized using clickbank

    3. had 35 clickthroughs to clickbank sales page and had 3 sales

    4. i didn't put a hit counter on my blogger blog so i don't know page views (my bad)

It seems the clickbank offer is converting around 8.5%, which seems good.

    Suggestions anyone?

    TIA

talk to someone who knows their shiz about landing page conversion. and start tracking your hits...

third on 7500 phrase searches is worth something.

If it's not your ranking then it's obviously a problem with conversion. Maybe switch to another product if you have no control over the products landing page.

Could be loads of reasons. Could be something about your website its self, have a look at other similar pages and compare it. Are you using the right keywords? There are 'buying keywords' and 'info keywords'. Could be that the product is rubbish, just because there alot of results for it doesnt mean that its selling/converts. Even worse, someone could be stealing your commissions :O Cloak your links maybe.

It's not with the product. You're not getting enough traffic.

the number of results is only important for determining how big the competition is. you got to #3 so you beat the little competition there is.

your problem is that there are not enough searches. check the monthly search volume for your keyword with the google keyword tool and you will see that its most likely very unpopular.

    - Compare the demographics data of your traffic with the demographics data of a similar but popular product in your niche. For example, if you are promoting products related to Government Grants or Work at Home, demographics data on these niches is Women between the age of 40-54 that brings out the most conversions. Many other factors can also have an impact on your conversion rate. but this would be a good start for you.

    - How much are you actually making for 1000 unique visitors? (RPM) Have you been optimizing your landing page in terms of click through rates to your sales page? A-B testing on various Ads and Text. Google Optimizer is a good for this, even though I use a custom in-house platform.

I would start by studying the demographics data of both your traffic and converting traffic. After you know that your traffic is as targeted as possible you can start optimizing your landing page to improve your RPM.

    Not necessarily.

Of course, I don't know the monthly search volume, but assuming it's ok it could be the blog content itself. If the pre-sell content isn't enticing enough, you won't get a lot of people to click through to the vendor's sales page.

I don't know your niche, but for instance in the IM market people get offered huge bonuses for buying through affiliates links. Maybe the competitors make it more lucrative to use their link instead of yours.

The number of pages found does not show very much about the search volume... ;)
