So, I've found an amazing tutorial on how to quickly find expired domain names with high authority and good backlink profiles and it's working well.

I found one really awesome domain that's expired and has DA31 PA45 and is very old with hundreds of backlinks all high quality and contextual. I thought, sweet, i'll jump on over to a registrar and register this baby right now! Last time it only cost the same as it cost to register a fresh domain.... this time there is a 'premium' label and the price is between $15,000 ~ $25,000.

Something tells me if I had my own company that could register domains with ICANN I could snap this up for a few dollars. Anyone have any experience or insight with this? This kind of gouging makes me a little sick.

Sometimes a premium domain is a brandable cool domain and the price is high for the domain name itself not for the link juice

I get the feeling in this case it's listed as available but it's actually being sold through the registrar as a broker. Because when I check in dynadot it says taken. Hmm... I guess that pattern exists too. Oh well..

I would pay that money for a LL.com domain, but not for an expired domain.

It simply means that domain is not available, it has already taken and current owner is selling at that price.

If it sells then that is it's worth, not gauging, just supply and demand. Sometimes domains are overestimated though, but many have been rich by snapping up domains that big companies later must have.

But sometimes, just occasionally, you bump into one in a bar and snap her up for the price of a drink.

There is no fixed price to a domain OP, and none of us really have any way of knowing just what a domin is worth to someone. A startup with investor cash to burn for example - they wouldn't think twice about dropping 50-100k on a brandable domain....when you're the little guy you just gotta compete harder!
