    Hey

Just wondering from your experiences what would be the best method to get on top of a search term that has around 20k competition sites.

I'm new to this whole IM business. I'm 19 years old and I'm looking towards making more than the $10/day that I am currently making.

See who is in the top spot. Look at the content and make yours better then see how many backlinks they have and get more.

See if theres a wikipedia page for it, and get a backlink on that from the references. Not sure if it's ********, but it'll give you some juice either way.

    and don't forget socialbookmarking =]

Create a link wheel - search for it on the forum.

First page should be pretty easy for a 20K keyphrase. Do the regular white-hat thing (content with lots of your targeted keywords, link exchanges, directories) and then add a little grey- and black-hat to really push you up the rankings (building fake blogs that link directly with your target phrase, social bookmarking, ...).

What I also do sometimes is search for bloggers who are writing about the topic and ask them whether they are willing to link to me with the exact key phrase I want in exchange for a few dollars. If you have some good content, they will also be more inclined to follow up on your question. I usually pay something like 5$ for a link in a blogpost from a 4-6 PR page. For directly commercial websites this probably won't be as good as a solution as no blog owner wants to alienate their visitors with spammy paid linking.

Ok guys, thanks for the above advice. Here's a little specifics on my circumstances.

I found a better search term and now my competition has 30k keywords and the front page results are as follows:

    lyricsmania .com/lyrics/[insert song]
    some wiki entry
some authority site (this authority site has 60 pages and 60 backlinks via information from yahoo site explorer
    imeem .com/blah
    music. aol .com/blah
    lyred. com/blah
    mp3raid. com/blah

So how would you reach the front page with this competition? They seem like authority sites and I'm not sure what the strength of this competition is because I don't know how to check backlinks for subpages. I haven't made my site for this niche yet so I'm open to all suggestions. I'm thinking about doing a link wheel, but then again I don't know if it is possible for me to reach to the top.

    So far, I might try:
    Linkwheel
    MU Wordpress blogs

I look forward to hearing your advice. Actually, I would really appreciate it if you would guide me through this.

Well, your not going to get past a wiki entry without time and backlinks. Top 10 looks do-able. Do a check for pages with "allintitle:keyword", they are your real competition, pages optimized for that keyword. If its not full of PR6 and higher (probably not) then you can break page 1 with a basic strategy such as optimized site -> linkwheel -> additional backlinks.

    So my suggestion:

    1. Optimized site on the keyword. Keyword in URL/Title/1-3% kw density on page
    2. Linkwheel web 2.0 strategy on keyword. (Its here in downloads I think)
    3. Once those are done, social bookmark 5-10 sites every couple days, build a few (not too many 5-10 a day) links on ******** blogs, and provide fresh content once a week or so.

    4. Break top 10 in 30 days. Breaking the top 5 will probably require a few more months of linkbuilding.

Thanks man. All in Title gives me 1.170k. Top if the list is Wiki and the others are youtube and some lyrics sites.

I'll start on the Linkwheel strat right away.

Man...I created a weebly site 2 days ago and it still hasn't been listed yet. Usually my weebly sites would be on google under 24 hours. I hope it's not sandboxed or anything since I created a massive link wheel around it

Ping, bookmark, double check your 2.0 pages to make sure they didn't get flagged yet. Especially hubpages, my spam has a lifespan in minutes there if I treat it like knol. I dont think you can get sandboxed without getting indexed at least :D

it should be pretty easy, i see that anything below 60.000 is pretty easy to rank with SOME effort, like articles and backlinks.
