Anybody else pumped for the Confederation's Cup?

Besides the World Cup, I'm the most excited for this soccer/football event. After that comes World Cup qualifying.

It's exciting this year for me because us Americans are in it! Unfortunately, we got the worst draw ever, and here's why:

    Groups:
A: South Africa, Iraq, New Zealand, Spain
    B: USA, Italy, Brazil, Egypt

I personally don't think we'll make it out of the group stage...I'd personally be happy with 0 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw. :)

This is the only world class action I see the US in besides the World Cup, so I'm very excited for this.

Who are you guys rooting for?

The Confed Cup is always pretty interesting, but no one seems to really care of it. Still theres talent on display all over. I'm backing Spain or Brazil to win it all. Also sorry USA sucks real bad, theyll probaly finish last in that group. Theyll be lucky to manage a draw. Im just sad my beloved albiceleste isnt there =(. Were taking the world cup next year tho =)

Costa Rica is incredible at home...I watched the game, and I will admit the US did look pretty bad.

But my excuse for that was the field was made of cement, very hostile environment, and Costa Rica is 18-1-2 in their last 21 matches at home. That's crazy, and they are 0-7-1 vs. the United States in their last 8 matches in Costa Rica.

Even though the chances of the US making it out of the Group stage are low, the best part about this event and the World Cup for me is that there is hope...it doesn't matter whether the US weren't skilled enough to win the World Cup in 2006, but I still watched the Ghana game because if they had won that, I think Czech would have had to tie and they would have gotten in to the knockout stage, or some weird combination, and from there, even though they don't have the skill, there's still that hope, and that's what I love about international soccer!

The refs were calling bullshit today...but I won't blame them...how about Egypt complaining about the 4th referee using video to review the call?

We (USA) almost had Italy...we had 'em right where we wanted them, 1-0 at halftime, but then played really poorly in the 2nd half.

no the usa didnt have anything. usa played anti football and got a player sent off for a horrible tackle. They never really looked like scoring, and even had 2 clear 1 on 1s with the goalie that they rolled straight at him. They got a penalty, and theres no glory in scoring a penalty. The better team won, and Italy weren't even playing that well. USA are the worst team in the tourney besides New Zealand.

Yeah dont think US have what it takes to beat the powerhouse Azzurri. I was surprised Lippi started a lot of the veterans and didn't unleash the new youth.Greatgame nevertheless forza azzurri !

Egypt was pretty close today, they played pretty good. They have a case for last goal, it was definitely reffed by using video replay ( and that is strongly forbidden ) but sstill I don't think anything will change.

Definitely a yellow card...but the 2 on 1 in the 1st half was kind of unacceptable. Altidore should have shot that...and there is glory in scoring a penalty...they would have scored if the foul hadn't been committed basically...that IS what a penalty kick is, fyi.

And this game is over because of a Phantom Foul...well this sucks.

EDIT-20': Whereas that goal was definitely the US's fault.

Wow Egypt beats Italy 1-0, they were really lucky to pull off a win with that 1 goal since Italy dominated the whole game and could have made it easily 3-1 Italy.

Thank god Lippi is behind the bench again and i could see Italy winning this whole tournament. The Azzurri look far more dangerous this year than any other team.Just look at the lineup, its insane.

    Forza Azzurri !

    And now USA can advance!!!

We just have to beat Egypt by 6 and have Italy lose to Brazil, and both of those are practically locks!

Ha! Not so much! I'm extremely proud of our boys right now!!!
A week ago, they looked awful vs. Brazil and played with no heart...then vs. Egypt they finally looked like they were capable of pulling some magic, and now today this finally looks like a team that can do some work in the World Cup. I'm really proud of them...for the first time, they looked like they REALLY wanted to win...they were diving, giving effort, playing smart, great goaltending and forward play...USA soccer has just skyrocketed in popularity...look out European powerhouses!

PS: ESPN.com Poll - 50% of people voting already watched soccer regardless, 42% of people will now watch US Soccer, and 8% still won't care. ASTONISHING! Soccer has just taken a huge jump in a few days in popularity! Again, I'm very proud of our boys! USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
