My site normally get 2000 uniques/day but i noticed over the last 2 days that the number of visitors has dropped significantly to like 230 uniques a day. I only use whitehat backlinking techniques. All the articles on the site are unique though some do repeat the same material over and over again a bit.

Is this the google dance do you think? How long is it likely to last....or is it something more terminal?

You say the visitors have dropped - but are you monitoring the keyword ranking positions?

If your rankings have dropped at the same time, then it's either 'dance' or you've tripped some penalty.

If you rankings are consistent then it can be a number of things. Maybe your market has changed and people are searching different terms - or maybe you lost a direct-link from a busy site which was providing a lot of your traffic?

Thanks. How long are these likely to last? I think it would be a bit odd to be sandboxed because the site is on an old domain and has had most of it's content added over the last 10 months with a steady stream of backlinks being added in the last 6 months.
The site is completely above board in every way, the only thing is i have a lot of articles which are basically saying the same thing because i have each article optimised for a specific keyword in the niche. Having said that though, google analytics is showing that each visitor on average views 4 pages and that 15% of visitors return again in the future.

I should be ok, do you think?

    I'm having rankings drop too.

Haven't seen talking about Panda either, so it must be an algo change. I don't really understand why my websites have been targeted (unique content and helpful), so I'm really curios what others have to say. Our websites (those that have been hit) probably have things that Google doesn't want us to have based on this last update.

    Any patterns here, people? Thanks!
I don't think it's about Google adsense placement, what could it be, really?

The trouble is google, despite what they may believe, are not perfect and sometimes when they are trying to tweak the algo to fix a "problem" they end up creating a different problem and hitting legit sites.

All you can really do is keep doing what you can and get rankings back.

    Archeon thanks!

I don't blame Google. It's natural to make mistakes or to change their algo and I'm pretty sure their doing their best to clear the results.

The funny thing is that my website is really helpful and there are no major differences from my competition. But, something is different than my competition because my website was hit and their websites weren't.

Most of my keywords lost 3-4-5 positions and some gone from 1 to the bottom of page 1 or the start of page 2 (I've read somewhere that other people noticed this on September 28).

Now, if this was an algo update, it must be something my websites have and my competition doesn't. What could it be? It's not about the backlink profile, Google Adsense, h1, h2 tags, etc. It could be about bounce rate, website speed?

Other ideas? I know I should continue building links, but I'm curios if someone know what happened? Let's find it out people!

    Thanks!

Check your analytics. Is the majority of your traffic from search engines?

If so, look at your keywords that pull the highest traffic in, then check their place in the search results.

Curios if more people that were hit on September 28 has some Amazon affiliate links on them?

    Thanks!

Yes, something is definitely happening with the g00gle past 2-3 days.

Some of my sites went down, some up. Nothing we can do. Just wait and hope everything will back to normal.

I think we should or understand the patterns for those that went down so we can see what we can do to recover our rankings.

Simillar themes, patterns, Adsense placements, outgoing links on the main page in the sidebar, Amazon affiliate links? Anybody?
