I got a message from my hosting stating that some sites on their hosting have been hacked.

So I check mine and the front page of each one has the name of some arab showing on it.

Forutnately it seems non of the inner pages have been touched but how do I know the sites havent been compromised further- to leech my adsense and the like or cause other such mischeif in future?

What should I do now to fix this?

Bad time for it to happen (then agian when is it a good time for it to happen :D?) since I just went away today for xmas and dont have the ftp info with me.

I have messaged the hosting company advising what to do and asking if they can sort it.

So first anything else to do in the meantime plus how to prevent such a thing from happening in future?

I was just celebrating to myself that this site had just earned its first adsense earnings then get a nice slap bakc to earth with this. Could my adsense be compromised?

    Hey Ranko

I too have had the same problem a few days ago and from what you are describing seems similar to what happened to me. I also had an Arab hack my site with a picture of a young kid crying (the hacker's got quite a bit of a sick humor). From my investigation, I think the gateway was from a google plus plugin that I downloaded here.
Anyways, my hosting company managed to fix the problem. They restored a backed up version of my site from their data base. I lost quite a bit of work (3-4 days of work) but I didn't mind, I was more than happy to have my site back up and running again. Ask your host if they have an earlier back up of your site. They most likely should, if not then you are on a bad hosting company and I suggest you look for a better one.

    Hope this helps,
    -Atmos

How do you know your site is hacked? Just curious, I can imagine guy hacking sites and swapping Adsense script.

How do you know if you site hacked? I need to check my sites just to make sure.

Hackers are usually too stupid to be smart enough to make money from it, if that makes sense lol.
In most cases, I think these are just young teens that want to see their name out there, "hacked by xxxxx". And they don't really do anything.
When I said I don't know for weeks, it's because I have a large number of sites and don't monitor them all the time. So I will see a huge drop in rankings for a site, or will see it myself when updating or doing something. For the last month I've hired someone to check my sites twice a week though. Not just for hacking, but with 50+ different hosts, there are always sites going down.

Yeah knew it was wordpress. What version? I'm hoping the newest version somehow fixed whatever they were doing. I guess they find holes in specific themes and take advantage of them. Mine used complicated passwords and they still got it.
