So I have 2 identical computers.

A few days ago I upgraded the RAM on one of them, and after upgrading the speed in task manager was 1600mhz. The ram I put in is 3200mhz.

I played around in BIOS a bit. And when I would drop it to 2400mhz in BIOS, it would show me 1200mhz when I would turn on the computer and check in task manager.

So I googled it a bit, and apparently 1600mhz means 3200mhz, because 2x1600=3200.

Great...

A few minutes ago I upgraded the other computer.

Now this computer shows 3200mhz in task manager.

But both computers are identical. Motherboards, power supplies, CPU, the whole thing.

I guess the only difference is that one has cracked windows (allegedly) and the other has the annoying "Activate windows" in the lower right of the screen. But that shouldn't affect nothing.

So what's the deal? Anyone knows?

Nothing, no one?
Is your ram in the correct slots? And the same on both boards? If I had one reporting slower memory than expected Id be checking the MB manual to see if the sticks are in the correct slots for dual channel. If they are correct and everythings identical then its got to be a setting in your bios somewhere.

I know fuck all about computers honestly. But have an extra bump. Hopefully someone who knows about computer parts can chime in.

Both computers have only 2 ram slots. I don't think there's correct/incorrect with 2 ram slots and 2 identical ram sticks.

It's weird. On one of the computers I just set the ram frequency to 3200MHz, and it works fine.

On the other computer I set XMR to Profile 1 (3200MHz), and it worked, but was buggy. But then when I disabled the XMR and set just the ram frequency to 3200MHz, the computer would always boot in Safe mode. In the end I set everything back to AUTO and now it runs fine at 2400MHz.

I don't understand how 2 identical computers can behave so differently.

I'm gonna have to dick around, check BIOS versions perhaps, try both with XMR enabled on Profile 1 and Profile 2, etc etc etc. It's such a pain in the ass :D

Unless someone can make any sense of what I'm talking about and give me a pointer or a tip or a million dollars or something :p

You're the man! :)

I'm still stuck on spreadsheets. When you try to type something in one of those little boxes, if it already has text in it all text disappears so you can't just add more to it.

That reminds me of, when you're in word & try to move an image & it destroys your text LOL.
