A number of articles, including this one talk about how important it is for a company's citations to match the proper address, business name, etc. What if 2 companies are under the same roof (same address) and use the same website? Initially, 1 companies acquired the other, but they still go by separate names, on 1 website, under 1 roof. Is it worth the hassle to just create a second website for the 2nd company, even though they have so much in common? Is this the type of citation mismatch that Moz is trying to get at? Obviously the client doesn't want to make a second website, just because of the hassle of having 2 but maybe it really has to be done. What do you guys think?

In a situation like that I'd add a small indicator at the end of the addresses, like suite 1 or suite 2, even if there arent any suites.

Good idea. You mean on each company's respective contact page on the website, or in the citations, or both?

Do they have separate google plus pages or is there only one?

Two companies with one website is a no go. Businesses, according to google do not behave that way.

The citations mismatch will kill local rankings.

want to hear something funny. there was once a company that ranked on google places, i placed an order for citations. i mean a lot of citations...They MISSPELLED the name......Google automatically changed the name to the incorrect spelling, then when we corrected it, all local places rankings gone. Go into google places change the name to the incorrect name and rankings come back...

Well, I think the first white hat, professional step is to create a second Google plus page for the client's other business without a G+.

Edit: And the Suite 1, Suite 2 thing was pretty ingenious.
