Damn. That really sucks to be him. It all seems like such easy money, then you get busted and your life is pretty much over. Scares me and makes me think twice about everything I do.

If Ali was that desperate for money he should have just reached out to the public for assistance. He only made about $6,000 that they know about, and he didn't even host the streams. He just embedded them. That is ridiculous punishment for embedding.

Will they go after a person that has a site, with legally obtained youtube videos embed on their site? One of my sites I only get videos from persons that are allowed to have the music videos, and allow it to be embed.

oh my god, at first I thought He was making money like crazy out of it, then I saw the "The website did not host the pirated content. Rather, it embedded video displays whose content was running on a stream from another website."

conclusion : the link feature on youtube is so much more risky than smuggling marijuana.

how come no mention of the site that the videos were actually embedded from? Probably youtube, hence not worth going after. Lets make an example of the little guy...

This story is going to be another holly-wood Oscar movie script. That's how it is, leaving those big fish behind and busy with small fish like ali for 6k. What a shame!

It was illegally obtained content and it was sports. I think it is probably still ok to embed from youtube if its from the legal source, and not someone not uploaded it without permission.

Sports is probably the worse thing to pirate they have so much money to spend on lobbyists in DC. The NFL will even sue a church for hosting a superbowl party.

Exactly! Crucify a small player because they can't police their own policies.
I bet they lost all in $1.50 in revenue.

This kinda shit really gets under my skin. This is what homeland sec is up to these days? Unreal. My question is how much did this whole investigation cost to bring down a 6k a year webmaster? I bet it cost a hell of a lot more than 6 grand.

I dont know about the other sports leagues but the NFL has been having a lobbyist in D.C. for the past 2 years. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2009-03-25-nfl-lobbyist_N.htm

Could campaign donations be related to the crack down on web streaming of sports? They do not really go after other sites as viciously as the sports.

During these hard times..initiative should be rewarded...not penalized. I bet all he was doing was getting by with that 6k..putting alittle more food on the table each month. Damn shame.

I don't think it was youtube. They mention 'live streams'. So it's probably a website hosted somewhere it cannot be touched (and most likely still up).

When you want to do something, you first check whether it's highly illegal at your place. I wouldn't bang married women in Arab countries and wouldn't give access to copyrighted material in Western countries. But I would do the opposite in each respective place.

As to the usual 'Sending a clear message blah blah' from the officials, it is just pathetic since going after the small fry is nothing more than faking success in order to mask failure (and be off the hook for wasting billions of tax $$$s).

This a real warning shot. From Homeland Security too! Intellectual property is on the same
level as terroism now. Makes sense in a sick way. "Don't f*ck with our money or we're coming at you with all we got! Look what we did to the 19 year old!"

    They don't give a f8ck!
