hey, i started up a new site. topic dose not realy matter, it was a test to see if i could rank well in google.

it is ment to be a take on some game i use to play. i did some checking on the google keyword tool and saw there was no competition and a posible 40k / month visitors.

Yahoo site explorer recons i have 9,224 backlinks

google SERPS recons for "runescape f2p" i have 3 well ranked pages.

and looking on google typing in random related phrases (all checked with the google keyword tool for posible visitors) i have roughly 12 well ranked phrases.

A couple days ago i added in some affiliate banners which hopefully will make me a little money over time.

Total spend, not including the purchase of scrapebox has been $16. (might make some money with the affiliate's i guess)

im not sure what to do now, leave the site or carry on with scrapebox? i dont think i want to use scrape box anymore as 10k backlinks seems high for my 16 day onld domain.

i have currently had 847 unique visitors to my site.

    Your thoughts?

It's a gamble as far as I know. Most people will tell you to do a link pyramid with web 2.0 sites. I'd rather spend money on domains avoiding sandbox than spend time on that.

My thoughts exactly, I am going to add some adsense and move on to a different market.

I dont really want to be spending more time on this site, id rather have several sites running, i thought getting on to the first page of google was good enough, i know the ranking will drop over time. i may just blast some back links once a month.

i was shocked at howmany backlinks i had already.

I think you should concentrate on adding content for a while. Even if you get slapped, do not stop.

16 day old domain with 800 visits and 10,000 backlinks - those Google whiz kids are going to have to come up with one hell of an algorithm to filter this one out.

Seriously though, please be patient - you can't plant the seeds, add three buckets of water and then leave a plant to grow. You have done the keyword research, you know it is an ok niche - so keep on feeding it for the next year.

Totally agree with this one. As I have heard so many times, too many backlinks to a website in such a short amount of time is frowned upon by Google, but 10,000 backlinks in 16 days... thats a little over the top don't you think, especially with such a new website...

You should have started off slowly first...a few directory submissions and social bookmarking to initially announce your site, some articles to show you have good knowledge of your site's main topic, maybe a Youtube video. Search engine submissions and pinging of your sitemap would also be good in the early stages as well. Gradually build on this and within a few months the website would have a good amount of backlinks and be friendly with the big G.

As someone else has said on this thread, consistency is key. Build your backlinks slowly at first, and on a consistent basis.

So the answer to the O.P's original question is "yes".

P.S I may have fallen into this guy's mistake when my site was young, but my site does rank pretty well for a handful of targeted keywords, however my site only has a P.R of 0. Am currently drawing up some ideas to restructure my site a bit so it will look more appealling.

I started with none and added 5600 in 3 days and went from page 13 to 1 and that was 2 months ago. I now have 3 separate domains ranking on page 1 with 1.5M sites competing for the keywords. I am getting about 20-40 hits per day on each of the sites.

The number itself is not that important, what you have to consider is that from how many domains/sites those links are coming.

If a friend of yours just put your links on the sidebar of his/her blog, this alone can bring you thousands of backlinks which is very reasonable for a 16 days old website, however if those 10K links have come from lets say 5K-6K different domains, yes that will cause a serious problem in future.

I have to mention that once I did a test and published a website and made 150K BL within 2 months. The first 3 months was great but after that the SE traffic decreased in a stable pace and reached 10% of the previous level.
