I wanted a good smtp server for setting up my autoresponder for CL, so I am thinking about starting a hosting account at hostgator. But not if they charge $15. 1and1 is like $8 for a .com.

    Am i missing something?
Can anyone recommend a better host for autoresponding.

You don't have to have your .com registered by your webhost.

The two are totally separate. You should be able to get your .com from 1and1, and run your services elsewhere. Just make the appropriate DNS entries.

I agree, do a google search for who ever is giving the discount for the week. Then if it really concerns you, just transfer it after 90 days
