One of my closest friends died today, he lived with our family for 14yrs. He protected my children and us, he watched our belongings while we were gone. He was faithful and diligent in his love of our family.
He was our lab/Sheppard mix Oscar, he lived a long happy life but everyone and everything dies and his time with us is over.
I make this post in hopes that a little bit of him will stay around for a very long time, even if it's just in the form of this post.

I ask that no one flame this post, as my son may see it and he is heartbroken as it is.
Feel free to share your own stories or experiences if you want. I posted this here because I basically live on this forum. Thou I may lurk more than post I guess it's just where I go when I want to feel at home.

I understand that my post count is @99 and a post here won't move it to 100 but in essence is is my 100th post. Please don't flame me on how I could have made a more useful post for my 100th. I would like to be a vip as much as the next guy but this is what I wanted to do.

R.I.P. Oscar - You will be Missed.

Awww, i know how i felt when my cat of 8 years died (about 3 weeks ago). But the puppy dog face on oscar is priceless. R.I.P Oscar, but life goes on =)

My best friend is sitting by my feet as I type this... He's 12 now, seen me through a lot of good and bad times. Prayers with you and Oscar... I remember the movie "All Dogs Go To Heaven". I hope that's true, since every dog who has spent their live with me or my family holds a piece of my heart forever.

I feel your pain brotha, I don't think anyone around here is that cold.

I remember not to long ago having to put our families dog of 12 yrs down, she was suffering real bad, cancer, and we put her down about 11pm or 12pm, emergency vet.

I was burying her with my dad in the backyard around 1am, neither one of us could hold the tears back on that one.

R.I.P. Oscar

I remember when I was young and my dog died. I was in tears and shock for a week or more. Also when my cat died.
I know how it feels.

P.S and you shouldn't worry about starting a flame war here. 1st of all this is the lounge so almost everything is welcome here. And BHW is just a group of nice people.

I am sorry for your loss.

My dog died 3 years ago and I miss her very much.
She was 12 and she had cancer.

I think it was a twist of fate that brought us together.
I went to the local pound with a friend who was going to get a cat.
And I happened to see my future dog, but the building I lived in did not allow pets and at the point I could not afford to move.

I remember thinking about her all the next day and went back to visit her at the pound. When I got home, the building owner said his brother was going to be running the building. Turns out his brother was a dog person and he was fine with me getting a dog.

Ran back to the pound and got her that evening.

R.I.P. Oscar :(

I myself have a dog too as well as a cat. Hope they have long lives.

He's such lovely, innocent, & so expressive eyes!

As if he is asking me to tell your kids that his sweet soul will always be with them --

Just -- the form will be different now, but his love for them (& you too) shall always remain the same!

God bless this very dear soul!

You are all so nice...

Thank you very much for your comforting words..

Rip Oscar.

My dog died when i was 14, haven't had one since that, will get one for my daughter in the next months.

Very sorry for your loss Mus. My lab shepherd mix passed away last year at age 11. One of my co-workers emailed me this at the time. Tonight we will dedicate this to Oscar:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I was fortunate enough to have the same "best friend" from age 3 until 17. She was a great family dog. She didn't sleep at night because she would go from room to room and spend a little time, she made rounds all night checking on the family. I can't believe it has been 30 years since she crossed over. I still feel her watching over me, especially at night.

A little over 2 1/2 years ago, I had to make the decision to put down my big red chow, Erik. He was a great dog, a stray that came into my life for 3 1/2 years. One night I was walking him, a pit bull came out of nowhere, latched onto his head and drug him around like a stuffed animal. It was horrible. The damage was too much, I had to let him go on.

There is a theory that animals are guardian angels and that they are content with their limited bodies/abilities because they understand their higher purpose in life. I choose to believe this; and I believe this for you and your family, too.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and so is Oscar.

These are great words... and yes, it is an eternal truth! All the dear ones have to take the final rest one day... then, they all meet, never to part again, in a very beautiful world on the other side.
