I am following a website sale on Flippa and I am very intrigued about the seller's claims. Long story short I couldn't find any specific/interesting details myself so I am looking for someone brighter/more resourceful to do the job.

    Flippa listing:

    /2845390-better-travel-guide-40k-in-7-months-zero-work-2-million-uniques-month

I am paying $100 split as follows:
    - $50 for finding the landing page that website is using to direct people to agoda (read the sale listing for more details)
    - $50 to identify the advertising network he is using for interstitial/popup traffic

    Payment via PayPal or Moneybookers

This is my first post here, hope I came to the right place for this :)

    Thank you
    M

Hmm it looks like a very cheap wordpress design, you can use scrapebox to find all the other urls

I wish it was that easy. I could not find the landing page in any way, it's quite likely it's not linked from within the website itself, but apparently there are links on the landing page towards the main website.

    it is wordpress...

    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://bettertravelguide.com/wp-content/themes/Aggregate/js/superfish.js"><script type="text/javascript" src="http://bettertravelguide.com/wp-content/themes/Aggregate/js/custom.js">

also this is just a guess but this caught my eye...

    https://d5nxst8fruw4z.cloudfront.net/atrk.gif?account=XENGg1awAe002n

is the above some type of tracking pixel? I think you just need to comb through the head or body and look for the code installed that points back to a specific network. I use firebug to inspect websites live.

Ok for those who don't want to bother reading the whole listing on Flippa, here are the important bits. The guy is spending $1000/mo on advertising a landing page through popup/interstitial advertising which he says is so attractive to that traffic that he is making over 500% profit per month in agoda commissions. That page on the website "/book-a-hotel" is not what I am after. This is not easy, if it was easy I would've found it myself. This "job" requires a little more than basic search, someone with expertise in competition research.

As I said before, this landing page he is using (and I am interested in) is most likely NOT LINKED from the main website, it's a simple way for him to keep his secrets safe.

What I could find so far is the "/wp-includes/" which is unprotected to reading, but I could not identify any useful information.

what does his spending and earnings have to do with the info you asked for?

edit: im also confused about this "landing page" you keep referring to. how do you know he is using a landing page? have you seen it? in which case you can or should be able to rip it lol

What I am trying to say is that the secret might not lie within the pages of the website itself, so the info I am after might need a different approach, like let's say trying to find external pages that link to the website (the owner said that his landing page contains links to this main site, among others), but those are subject to search engine information and could be easily blocked via robots.txt. I am now thinking that the landing page might even reside on a different domain/subdomain. He was very cautious when deploying his method, I cannot find any traces of it whatsoever.

Right now he is listing a real deal on Flippa and I bet I am not the only one trying to find his secrets, but - as I said - he did a good job at hiding them

The landing page I am after is mentioned in his listing as part of the method he uses to get that profit, but it's not disclosed. I would rip it if I could find it :)

What makes that page so interesting is the fact that he is spending $1000 on popup and interstitial traffic - which we all know is awful - and yet he manages to get enough sales to make 500% profit. One other interesting thing is that his target is Asia, which means low advertising costs. How can he make so much money out of this sort of campaign? This is what I am trying to find out.

ah ok cool well in that case what comes to mind is using scrapebox or something to find all links to or from the site.

edit: I guess u could use google too but im not 100% sure on what footprint shows links or even if there is one lol

I tried the easy ideas: Google, Alexa, scraped the website, could not find anything :) Looks like the landing page is well separated from the main website. I'd say the main website is merely a cover to get accepted into agoda.

Google cache page is available, site only has a (ugly) landing page with optin form which adds you to the email list, it doesn't redirect to the main site at all.

That one is new, wasn't there yesterday.

But this one was: "comannet", (can't post tld) which interestingly enough says "commannet ad service". Now where is that landing page?...

Wow, great job jaerehan, it's quite likely that that page is what I am after :) Will PM you shortly to send the payment

Now how can we find which ad network is he using to drive traffic to that landing page for the other $50? :)

However, one thing strikes me. As someone previously said, that page only gets me in contact with a "sales agent" via email. No direct agoda linking. How does this work, I wonder?
