So in my weird search for weird crap today I found this video released a few days ago. I think it will help with the recovery of sites stuck in the spin zone. I do not normally listen to all the things this guys says but this in particular is some good knowledge.

Google wants to see that you've put some effort into removing as many of the links as possible when making a reconsideration request.

Interflora was a great case study for Google as it helped them put the fear into all the webmasters out there buying links.

It's not always the case that your first reconsideration request will be successful.

I agree! but it does offer a way to recover and that is last ditch effort to get your site back.

You can use the disavow tool provided by google to have them discounted from counting towards your site.

You use the disavow tool to submit a list of links/domains you want to have removed and you WOULD also be required to show evidence that you went through efforts and lengths to remove the links.

PRACTICALLY....it's a murderous jobs since the really bad links may be in China or on networks or whoever where there is no effing way to get the links removed. Obviously, Matt knows this..but this is the entire point because that's our "punishment" having done all the bad things in the first place :)

My opinion: If you have a site with not much content, say a max of 50 articles or so you can spend the same time re-making your site and will have better chances if you start from scratch on a new domain than spending months trying to clean up bad links. If you've been really bad in the past you'll likely have 1000s of spammy links...whether you can remove them all to "recover" your site may be questionable.
