I'm not here to bore anyone with sob stories and fluff, but I need some extra cash, so I'm starting a journey thread. This won't end up like most of the journals that never get finished, even if I end up failing (but that's not really an option).

    THE GOAL

Going for the always popular $100 day and I'm going to do it by 5/31/16 (~3 months). However, this is just the first of many goals. My ultimate goal will be over $1,000 a day and I'll be making more journals for those once I get this one done. Baby steps first.

    THE METHOD

My main method will be making a viral news site and promoting it through social media, mainly Facebook. I won't have any problems getting a site up and getting some content. My main concern is learning the ropes with social media promotion, which has been a stumbling point for me in the past. It's a skill I really need though, so this will be a great learning experience and come in handy for future projects.

I might ask around for a JV if I can't get the traffic myself, but it's something I want to try to learn before I go that route.

There might also be some other methods sprinkled in for some quick cash and I'll go over those later on as I get to them. These will all be things that can be automated once the ball gets rolling and shouldn't distract me too much from my main method.

That's pretty much it and it's time to put up or shut up. I look forward to sharing the journey with everyone and I'll be as open about everything that I can, with hopefully at least 2-3 updates a week, if not more.

Great attitude to have going in OP. The tricky part is to sustain that attitude throughout the duration of the journey.

If you're able to drum up facebook traffic that can be pretty awesome. It's possible to get some high-quality visits to your website going that route.

I was never really to successful on Facebook when it came to driving traffic but I know that it can be done. My recommendation would be to expand to Instagram as well as Twitter while not spreading yourself too thin.

    Good luck to you OP.

Rooting for you OP. Do you have existing FB groups or accounts or are you starting from scratch? Are you using ads to kickstart?

Thank you, and yes, it's always hard to sustain your motivation after that initial momentum wears off. I know there's going to be some days where I'm not feeling it, but I just have to keep grinding it out. It also helps that I have a $5k bill due in ~25 weeks that I absolutely can't be late on. I'll pay some of it off with money I make from my job, but it's going to be tight unless I can help out with this.

Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter are all in the mix as well. Going to do some small test on those, but won't go full force unless I see some good results.

Starting from absolutely scratch unfortunately. All I have is my personal account that I don't even use.

I'm going to try some targeted facebook group posting and some manual like/share trades to begin with. I might spend about $5 a day on page ads if I can't get any initial traffic.

There will be no bots though. I don't know enough yet on how not to get banned using them. No fake likes either other than manual trades.

    Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks and good luck to both of you!

    UPDATE - DAY 1

I'm feeling pretty good about today, even though I was hoping to get a bit more done. Here's what I crossed off the to-do list:

    • Bought a domain that was fairly decent/brandable. Most of the good ones were already taken or parked.
    • Got it pointed to my hosting account (already had a good host) and installed WordPress
    • Got my theme installed and the basics set up. Still have a few odds and ends that need to be done.
    • Set up and installed the Facebook comment plugin, which took a while due to the theme
    • Designed the site logo & favicon
    • Set up a Facebook page and Twitter account. No design or posts on either yet.
    • Wrote 1 news article and posted it. Have 2 more that are almost done + a decent list of future post I can do.

So, yeah, that's the progress after about 10 hours. Did most of the major stuff that needed to be done before I can start posting and promoting. Still have to finish the sidebar, footer and implementing the ads on the website. Then I need to throw up some quick designs on my social media pages.

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do tomorrow since I have to work. My main goal will probably be to finish tying up some of the loose ends on the website. Maybe finish off those 2 posts if I have the time.

    Doable ,

back in 2013 I did social like crazy , the secret sauce is to get in touch with big brand owners and buy promotions/shares

start with a smaller budget , test things out , start analysing data and constantly tweaking until you are left with a decent RPM , once that's done buy more traffic

    Sky is the Limit

Links, which were used massively for spamming do not have any effect.

Interesting. I have always been thinking of doing something similart, but thought I have a little experience to succeeed in such a project.

    1. Will adsense be your main source of income here?
    2. Are you going to add twitter to the facebook traffic source?
    3. Are you going to use facebook ads or other ways of traffic? Remember that you shouldn't advertise your site directly with FB ads. You would rather make a fan page and from there you direct your fans to your site.

    1. Probably. I'll be starting with Adsense and will test other networks when I have a decent amount of traffic.
    2. Yep. Facebook will be my main focus and I'll branch out to some other social media sites to see if I can drive any traffic from them.
    3. Might use facebook ads if I can't get any initial traffic. All the ads will be to

    UPDATE - DAY 2

Still feeling great about progress made so far. I had to work today so I didn't have much time, but I made good use of the time that I did have. I managed to get the site 99% done. Just a few small tweaks that shouldn't take longer than an hour or so to do.

The only thing left to do after that is setting up the designs on Twitter and Facebook. Then I'll grind out some posts to help fill the site up before promoting. Looking forward to actually getting that initial traffic.

I also quit smoking today, because f-ck paying $5 a day for cigarettes and having to stop working to go outside to smoke. I'll be using my ecig to help me out, so it won't be too bad.
