So I have a client who owns a local business that doesn't even rank for their business name in google, despite an exact domain match, page rank 2, and good domain age. And no, they don't have a keyworded domain name that people try to rank for, there is no competition. When you google the business name, everything about them comes up: their facebook, their yelp, their industry related pages, review pages, business listing pages, their linkedin profile, EVERYTHING that has anything to do with their business except their domain. It's not in the first 20 pages.

They come up first result in Yahoo & Bing. So I'm thinking Google penalty. But for what?

Now there is no keyword stuffing, there is no black hat links, everything is by the book. So I did some investigation and looked at the archives to see if they have ever done any sort of keyword stuffing or any other no-no's. Turns out in 2001 the site was registered by someone else and it was some sort of old lady porn site. Can this be real? Can a site actually have a 10 year old penalty? I can't see any other reason this could be happening.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

Try telling the owner to submit it to google.com/webmaster and submit a sitemap and things such as that. Ping it a couple times. Should show up.

    Try
    Code:
    site:[domainnamehere].[extension]
in Google search, if nothing shows up, the site has been deindexed.

yeah I know I'm going to do the reinclusion request. They come up when you do url search so it's not de-indexed, it just looks like a severe penalty
