You can change domain name or add new domain names, the account is yours and it is up to you what you want to do with the account. As for the upgrade, the option to upgrade is there but it is most certainly going to be a paid subscription plan to enjoy that unlimited drive.

Our accounts are sitting with us for months / years with no issue. The point is if the account has trouble you can let me know and I will do my best to recover the account, this starts from contacting Google and they will tell me right away the cause of the account issue, if it's spam it is highly unlikely the account is recoverable.

Other than spam, I am pretty sure I can recover the account, that should tell you we do own each and every account, not just the domain, but all the details and documents as well.
