    HI all,
Sorry for the catchy title here, i could not come up with anything else.
Okay, i know a webmaster at a University, the school's (major one with 25.000 students) online newspaper is selling advertising space in form of links (anchor text) for 100 dollars a month.
I have tried it like a year ago, and approximately one month after i bought it, i had around 10.000 links from that single site showing up.
It is a PR6 and subpages (internal articles) are minimum PR2-s usually.
    My question:
    1. I know viewing the backlinks it counted as approx 10.000 links but does it count as only 1 single link?
So IF (hypothetically) for example CNN was selling the same service and they would put your link on EVERY SINGLE SUBPAGE OF THEIRS - that's what this site does - would it still count as 1 single innocent PR 8 link (i think CNN is PR8) or would it count as maybe 1 PR 8 (main page) and a lot of other PR links (subpages).

I hope everyone understands what im talking about.
Because i remember that before jumping on google number one for a semi-agressive keyword i was using their service (of course doing other SEO things as well), so this might have jumpstarted my ranking. Im just wondering.

Please let me know your thoughts!
    Thanks for everyone!

In my experience links from the same IP get discounted... But only If you have a great number of them and not all of them. So imo no, they wouldn't count as 10000 links (that would be too good), but will still carry much more weight than a single link.

A site which has been advertising with them for the last 3 months has almost 32000 links from that domain and some of them are .edu as well because the school newspaper's stories sometimes appear on the university's site. And before anyone's asking: NO, im NOT selling their service :) I truly would like to know its effectiveness.

Thank you der.brain for your suggestion.
However my question was a little bit different from this topic, although i understand your method too.
This is an advertising opportunity which i took like a year ago, and boosted my rankings, i just wanted to know if it really counts to be a good number of links because if it does and everyone agrees, i would like to share the information here.
The only thing i know is the yahoo site explorer sees them as separate links and ever single day as the site generates more and more content it results in more and more backlinks of course, so pretty much on autopilot and with the .edu site in the bag on the side i think it has to produce a strict result. But maybe i was lucky or other methods contributed to my number 1 ranking.

Lewi do you have any suggestion regarding these links? Can you analyze them maybe?
    Thanks!

There is this guy in a niche I'm in who is top for the term and his backlinks consist mostly of a huge amount of links from the same sites and some profile links so it can't be too bad.

    LOL!

How did you know i would be here to read this? ha ha

I use site-wide links all the time and they do have more power than just one single link from the site (plus with this being higher PR is a big bonus).

However im really not too sure how effective it will be for $100 a month and honestly i think this would be something you need to test... do the seo for your site so it's in the top 100,200,300 etc (depending on difficulty) and then buy this and see what the boost is like!

Not sure what links you want me to analyze as i could go and get a list of all their indexed backlinks (from the site who uses the service) or just give you a ball park figure on how many they have in total (would include the ones from other seo efforts) but still it won't help much!

Which reminds me i gotta sort out the service and slash the prices (prefer to take more orders)

    Lewi
