A year ago we put together an "intern" play area based on the concept of viral news sites. Built in WP with an RSS scraper to grab and post news articles, allowing the interns a place to play and learn about WP. Content is also published to a FB page and twitter account as well.

Here we are a year later, and I have a 1 year old domain (FB page and Twitter account) with over 10k articles trickled into it on a daily basis.

About a month into this project last year, the interns spammed FB by accident, getting the FB page unpublished... so I just setup a new one.

I should also mention the content is not unique, and much of it still contains links or reference to the original source.

So, here I sit wondering what I should do with it? New batch of interns are working on a different project.

Thoughts?

It does get a few hundred uniques a month. Nothing has been done to promote the site (no inbound links, no facebook promotion, nada)

Trying to decide if it is an asset worth building up or just give it to the interns to play to death.

try to use a ad network and see what happen

Well it's an autoblog, unless what you decide to do is 100% automated and requires minimal setup, it's not really worth your time as all content is duplicate. It won't get far.

If I was you, I'd keep it as an intern play area or whatever and direct your energy towards projects with more potential.

Without unique content and no revenue its not going to be worth much unfortunetly.

My thought process on this is similar, just wondering if I am missing something. It would make a great testing ground for a FB idea I had, but that would require my time.

Content quality is very much important, Then only you can able to reach your goal :-( otherwise is can't possible.

Since the site is burnable, I plan to build traffic through social media. It will take up my time, but I have a concept in my head which needs to be vetted.

Yeah the best option would be to play around with it. don't go full blast on social media tho, the domain may get blocked real quick.
