hey guys,

lets say i have wordpress installed on my server. Is there a way, a plugin or something to use subdomains as categories?

for example:
www.example.com --> shows a list of articles.
one article is about "gaining weight". category is: "diet".
So the article should be viewable only @ http://diet.example.com/gain-weight.html

My apache and DNS A Records are configured for * wildcards subdomains, so I dont want/have to to install wordpress for every subdomain.
Is there some kind of plugin out there?

thanks, q.

I'm looking to do exactly the same thing. Single user, single WP install, categories as subdomains.

Casual Genius's Subdomain plugin is only compatible up to 2.9.2.
I'm tempted to just run an old version of WP and use the plugin.

I've (kinda) read the docs for installing Wordpress 3.x using network/multisite, but it doesn't look like much fun. Especially for sites on shared hosting. And it's probably overkill anyway.

There must be a cheap and nasty way to use PHP to rewrite the WP generated category links to a subdomain in the WP template, then use htaccess to redirect/rewrite the subdomains back to the 'real' WP category urls.
