I have a site ranking #1 for PRODUCT TERM ( MAIN KEYWORD ).
It gets around 150 visitors a day & almost 45 visitors click on the affiliate link like " Click here to get 50% discount on PRODUCT NAME".

But the conversions suck too much!

What i have done is written a good article but after 6-7 lines ( before i explain about the product ) i have put the "Click here link".
Is this bcoz of the fact that i put the link very earlier ( at the top ) before even the visitor reads about the product the conversions suck?

Should i be putting the link after the product is explained to a certain extent to the user?

    Thanks

The positioning of the link will obviously make a difference but even if it was in a rubbish place, you would still get some conversions. 45 click and 0 conversions implies that there is something fundamentally wrong.

I would first of all check the link and that people are definitely able to buy and this is being tracked correctly. I would check that it is a competitive price and i would check that it all looks genuine and has testimonials etc.

To average it for the past few days, 232 clicks for 8 days & 0 SALE!!
Links are inserted correctly. The basic product price is $90 & up.

    Anything wrong?

its annoying as hell man, im not sure whats wrong with one of my aff sites too.

    [product]scam.com about 200 clicks with 2 conversions. :-[

aff marketing is a weird (but possibly lucrative) game from what i have seen so far!

i would suggest checking the sales landing page (that the clicks on ur aff link land on), i too have been caught with similar problems and eventually found the sales page was using an email capture to offer a free guide/chapter/whatever, which of course most signed up for, then they would send out an email with a their own aff link, basically cutting u out of the commission! u do all the hard work, they take everything! sucks!

i would recommend looking into ur own email capture and use an auto responder to send them a link to the sales page, that way u can monetize the list later as well ;)

edit: by the way, 45 clicks and no sale is not unusual, getting 12 click per sale is exceptional in my experience (wish i could find a niche like that! :p )

mine is a direct product & buyer keyword. the landing page is good. have 2 banners on the sidebar.
its like productreviews.com. no email captures or pop-ups. very clean.

Another thing to try is changing the "click here" link to some anchor text instead early on... maybe somewhere in the first paragraph to be as unobtrusive as possible.

And the idea about your own email capture is great as well. After all, you are bring them in; why not keep them and monetize them as well. That way, if they don't bite on a $90 product, you can always follow up with a $37 product or ?

Well have you CONSIDERED maybe doing some SPLIT TESTING? Because in all honesty 45 clicks for every 150 visitors is phenomenal. That's a 30%+ click through rate.

    In other words...

I've had a similar problem where I've ranked 1st page for a product keyword but it just wasn't converting! A good strategy to do and this will actually increase your conversion is to rewrite the review but in this case write a NEGATIVE review about the product saying how bad it is... then refer the visitor to a similar product (one with better conversions).

This way your review seems more genuine unlike every other marketer out there and you'll see better conversions, PLUS this allows you to split test every other product in that niche which is huge!

Hope this helps everyone not just you ;)
