My site is now #1 in Google search engine for a keyword that has 5400 US
searches per month and it has a #2 ranking. However I am dissatisfied with
the pennies I'm getting from adsense now. I only made .05 cents a click
    yesterday :(.

I plan on getting rid of the adsense blocks on my site and place an affiliate
link on it that leads to a CPA offer or a high paying product that sells well.

My question is that if I make these changes by adding affiliate links or banner
ads, could that cause my site to fall from the #1 spot?

No, as long as you don't change content or any on-site description.

I used to make an average of $4 a day from that one site since it made it to the #1spot.
All traffic is organic so I think that it should convert well.

It took me 6 months to get it to the top, but it seemed like everytime I did something
to the site, it would fall. For example when I added a page to the site it fell from the
#6 spot out of sight for about 2 weeks. I didn't do anything to it since, being afraid that
    it would disappear again.

Adding a page to a top site SHOULD NOT affect your rankings UNLESS the page you have added is so keyword stuffed that it disrupts your on-page optimization. This is the only scenario that I can think of that a new page can affect your ranking.

No, nothing will happen, so don't worry.

Just make sure to occasionally build links to the site, so it doesn't drop out from the top spot.

    Between 100 - 250 visitors a day. Average clicks are 14 a day.

Your earnings are probably low because the keyword either has a low CPC, low advertiser competition or BOTH. I try to go after pretty competitive keywords because they're the most profitable -- they take more time and patience but the payout at the end is all worth it.

It really depends if you are #1 with a buyer keyword or a information keyword. If your traffic is only looking for information you can change w/e you want but you'll never make big bucks with it. If you do rank with a buyer keyword I suggest you find a nice affiliate program/product on clickbank or similair websites, if that doesn't work try to change your adsense spots etc. The position can make a big difference if placed right.
