Imagine you have 10 real followers. 2 of those followers comment on every post, so you have a 20% engagement rate. Now let's say you buy 10 fake followers. None of those will comment on your photos, but the 2 original followers who do still do. Now your engagement rate has gone down to 10%.

Are you posting pictures as well? If you post high quality content that should go up to some extent. I get around 10% follow back on days with no picture content and about 25-30% on high quality picture days
