Free version is fine. It gives you enough of an idea of what types of links / the quality that the site has. Most of the keywords with KWD less than 70% will have less than 10 links... and a lot of them will be terrible links. Many won't even be targeting the keyword directly either. But again...

Yeh I see how what I wrote could have been confusing. I edited my post. I was really meaning KD %... but I used numerals instead of % and said competition. Anything under around 70% is relatively easy to rank. But I always just use Semrush's tool as a starter. Go check out the search results...

Worked really well actually, pretty much ranked most of my low comp keywords I submitted in the top 10.

The keyword magic tool is awesome. Generally I search a seedword and filter by competition. Anything with less than 70% KWD and over 200ish search results I target in an article. I try to incorporate 5 - 10 of these per 1,000 word article and then use a higher KWD 80 - 90% with 2,000+ search...
