In theory it should work, as Google does reward pages additional ranking for being "trendy" and then falling back down when the hype dies. Its clever but I dont think its long term compared to back links. Maybe if you scale it up a bit more then you might see some impact?

Fair enough, actually i just read the advice from Google and I think the 2nd might classify as a large because even a 580x400 or 300 x 600 is a large format. Hope that helps.

From my experience, 2 ads should be fine. On some pages I have 3 ads and they still do fine as well. I am pretty sure the plugin allows for up to 3 ads even, so if its official information I would trust it.
