I'd suggest making sure your ASO is as solid as it could be. Search "ASO optimisation) and a kissmetrics article should come up which has a lot of good tips in it (sorry, I can't post links yet)

If you know that the .edu links are the reason it's ranking I'd suggest you go about trying to contact the webmaster of those .edu websites. Ask the webmasters to change the links to the more relevant page as it would offer greater value/relevancy to the visitors of their site.
If the links are removed after four week then they won't offer you any benefit long-term. You might get a short-term burst, but it's not really worth it if you're looking for a long-term impact.
