Small personal victory today.
I was paid $30 for 300 word health-related article for a client I found on Craigslist.
It took me about 25 minutes to research, write, and edit.
That's an effectively hourly rate of over $60. Not bad!
Here is the Serpbuddy report for some of my keywords. No real effort here. Simply adding SEO optimized content on a daily basis. Slowly climbing higher.
For oDesk be sure to fill out your profile and complete a bunch of the tests they offer. The more tests you complete the more jobs you can apply for every week. Also make sure you use up all your applications every week. I find that 1/3 jobs I apply for will hire me. Everyone complains about so...

My effort with my affiliate sites is on the back burner for now. I am still adding content on a daily basis but I'm not actively pursuing it.

Article writing is a gold mine. So far this month I've earned $400 between odesk and fiverr.
My girlfriend signed up for fiverr last night and already got her first order.

You're right. For me content writing comes very easy but it's not something I'm very passionate about.
I'm still working hard to make my first affiliate site sale. That's what's really important to me and is my long-term goal.

I have other content gigs for press releases and resumes and I offer about the same rate.
I'm thinking of changing the press release rate to $5 per 100 words because it's super popular.
I looked into it and apparently Google will only penalize a site with too many backlinks if the content is poor quality or not relevant. I'm only using 5-6 affiliate links per 1000 word post so I think I'll be able to stay under Googles radar.
You only have 1 gig? Create one daily until you have 5-6 and then a new one every couple of days. All of mine are relevant to one another but the more exposure you get the more orders you'll create.
At first I didn't do any promotion. I just made a gig, did some SEO on it, and let it ride...
