For those of you who have found success in various aspects of IM, what would you do if you could start over again from the beginning? Which methods would you focus on and which ones would you avoid, knowing what you know now?

Can't say for sure. I would guess that changing the hash would be enough, but they seem to be capable of creating an algorithm based on the video itself. For example, if I try to upload a video that has previously been flagged for copyright, it will immediately receive a third party notification...

No, YouTube would have immediately recognized them as previously flagged videos.

Did you upload the exact same videos, or did you edit them/change the hash values first?
