The sales letter doesn't look amazing, but on the other side of the coin sending a letter by post is quite genius. Not too many people doing that. A restaurant owner will do anything for positive reviews and a social media presence. Are you sure you got 20 sales out of 300 letters though...

I think the OP is talking about the page relevancy of your backlink. For example: having generic anchor links from pages where Google thinks the content matches "Plumers Chicago". Has there ever been a case study trying this? It would be cool to see the affect of a few hundred highly relevant...

Type into Google removed, its a high end fashion designer from the UK. 300,000 exact match searches globally. 135,000 local Uk searches. They have 3 websites in top ten, one of them position 3. Congrats to them, anyone care to find how their doing this? P.S their websites are I removed them

It's accurate. Your anchor text should be a balanced mixture of exact match, related phrases, naked url, generic (click here,go to site) and website name.

Nice case study, it's easy to see the BS Matt Cutt spreads. This is 1000+ searches per month and with spammy linkes you reach page 1. Can I confirm, what percentage of your links we're nofollow?

I did this when first starting SEO. 5000 directory links to site, I added each myself manually, but I used same anchor. got to page 1 then dropped to 7. It took 6 months to hit page 1, so not sure if worth it. Diversity of anchor is vital. If I tried again, I would use different descriptions...
