Build quality content authority site and start do link swaps and guest blogging, it'll do wonders but does require workie work. :)

It's best to just focus your attention on a few sites that are targeting long tail keywords and provide quality content my friend. Google has caught up to the whole autoblogging thing and are moving to eradicate these from the searches all together. Just my two cents.

Tools are great but manual link building will always out perform most tools but more work is needed and most people are not that motivated to do it. But my vote out of all those is Senuke Ctr because of the range of links it can get you and ease of use, they don't charge 147 a month for nothing.

Have you tried Zennoposter? It might be more to your liking.I enjoy using it because it's easier to use. Xrumer is heavy as you say but with anti spam turned on it's a lot more successful in posting. With this turned off, it's the best spamming tool on the market though and can't be beat.
