A very, very debatable process. Part of website promotions that Google encourage (aka, whitehat) is by telling your friends and families about it. What if you tell your "friends" about your website and your "friends" like your articles and link to it? ;)

It wont appear "natural". Natural backlinks would have combinations of no follow - do follow, your-keywords, "click here", "here", socials, bookmarkings etc. I guess it is fine if you have like 10 backlinks, all of them are do-follow, but 100 do follow with no follow will look fishy.
