I have been getting into Twitter in the last week, and have around 2,000 on 2 accounts mainly using the follow/unfollow gig. ManageFlitter is great for mass unfollowing. I just discovered Twiends and Twitclub in this thread, and they look much faster than the way I have been doing it.

I'm just dropping in to introduce myself. I am currently in business school, taking an E-Marketing class, and working on a couple of social media projects. I look forward to learning and sharing any information/insight I can. See you around!

It sounds like the problem is not how often you are tweeting; the problem is that you are tweeting the same exact thing over and over. Just create a few variations of the promotion and rotate them. Schedule them with hootsuite or similar so you don't have to do it manually.
