    Absolutely right. A page that already has traffic on it already has some value, so I would first see what it’s ranking for, how many backlinks it has, and how well it converts before making any changes to it.

    That is a good strategy,If the searches are valuable then optimiziing the current page will be a better idea rather than discarding all the relevancy of the page.

    Yes. A dip for a short period of time does not necessarily mean the update was a failure. Normally,I would wait for sometime and then do a comparison between the performance of the new and the previous queries.

    So do I. The symptyom can be seen in Google Search Console, but the explanation lies in the page and the analytics. It is my prefereence to use both of them before making any major SEO decision.

    You are correct. An association that is gained based on the actual value that your content adds is genrally better than any high metric assoiation randomly obtained. The two often compound over time.
