AI content can still rank but I have found unedited AI content is less reliable for long term. you should add real expertise, original information and human edits which will make big difference. Google current guidance also focuses on unique and useful content.

I suggest you should choose a topic in which you already have knowledge and can create consistently. Check what people are searching, see what competitors are doing and then start testing content.

Only backlinks are not enough. You will need solid content, technical SEO and relevant links can work together. Rankings can also move with time as competitors and google results change.

For me, internal linking has given the best ROI for the time I spent. Fixing pages and adding relevant contextual links to important pages can move rankings without creating new content or buildin backlinks.
