I always use gallery-dl for tasks like these, and it works flawlessly. Even with private accounts, just supply the cookies and you're good. Never had any issues whatsoever. The best part is that it not only supports Instagram, but a lot of other sites. And it's open source.

It sounds cool in concept but honestly everything that sounds cool gets ruined somehow after it's release. I'd probably be willing to give it a try if it handled privacy well (which is a big if - considering how much these companies love our data)
