Sorry but that's bullcrap. How likely is it that 60 sites are dancing all at once? It's not always "just" a G dance especially with that many sites being affected. I assume they look pretty similar and yes, there were serious algo changes that affected micro sites.

The only thing I can imagine so far is that you can work with "dirtier" methods because there's no way you can ruin the FB domain. My guess is that you should work hard on your linkbuilding but maybe this is a pretty inefficient way to do it. Advice needed :)
