I didn't notice any huge ranking boost when I added a few links on Wikipedia, but I do see a (small) bit of referral traffic. No harm, but not a huge benefit.

After spending so long trying to find helpful people in IM, this site has been incredible with the amount of generosity that pours out of its members. I've sent an e-mail and hope to be considered, but even if I am not, thank you for being willing to give so much to the community.
