3 kids... they keep ya busy enough to work off any and all extra bulk. All the activities involved with them as well, it's a headache for sure.

Just do a reset on the laptop and when prompted go for a completely fresh install, you can even just get a USB stick and download a clean OS install and boot from that to ensure. Then run a disk checking program to ensure all drives are wiped and everything deleted.

I used to enjoy Vice articles but the quality of the writing sank a lot in the past few years so this does not surprise me, didn't they also make a film that was actually rather successful though too?
