I think in the future you should create a new email account for each customer and give them the access with the privileges where they can't change the password. Back door is necessary here, can't trust people especially in another town/country.
Unless you set up a back up email which he didn't delete yet, I'm not sure if there is an easy way you can gain the access back.
In the future project I would recommend setting the permissions where you are the administrator and he is a moderator of some sort where he can't change the password...
