I'd start building different types of links to counter the sudden surge of profile links. There's not much you can do about the quantity of profiles your client's been spammed with, but you can definitely try to dilute the effect with diversity. Best of luck, would love to hear how it all turns...

If using a list like this in SEO software, it's also a good idea to copy/paste the common ones like "Click here" and the URL one a few times so they show up more often. I do this with Scrapebox and some online services.

Definitely one of the most overlooked aspects of link building. Whether it has a direct impact on rankings or not, you can't deny that it does make your backlink profile look a lot more natural. IMO at the end of the day, that's what Mr. Googoo's looking for anyway!
