Ask yourself how much work do I really do on these sites? If its very little and you still make more then the renew cost then yes.. renew it. I just renewed 3 or 4 sites that I haven't touched in over a year but they all make me more then they cost so profit is profit!

Well they need to wait to see if it works out.. I mean why renew a site unless it makes a profit right? Hope it works out for them if they can learn a few more SEO tricks they will be fine...

Well if you use firefox they have an addon that shows follow links.. I can't remember the name of it but you could search for it. I haven't used it in a while so I cant be 100% on if it still works but I don't see any reason it wouldn't.

You can run a search for blogs or forums in that niche and throw a reply or post some useful information relating the post with a link back to your site
