I've found that countdown timers and visitor counts etc just make the store look low quality.

Do you have any stats on your link clicks / YT views (the CTR from YT to your site).
My initial thought would be that something like a blogspot with text may have a higher CTR than a YT video in most cases, but I could be wrong

You simply need to spend more than $5 to make a decision - I never spend less than $20/day/adset when testing.

Google don't penalize duplicate content, in my experience, they just ignore it.
So it won't really do you any harm, but it won't increase your ranks UNLESS you have unique content around the translation to add more value.
Unique content can lead to more engagement & growth but I've found that the time taken to make it (and scale it) means it's not worth it, so I just stick to re-posting other content.
